"I'm not sure I want to describe the music as much as I want to invite people to listen to it. Because this is the sound of New York City…the tension and release of a cosmopolitan society where people of all shades live together: the sound of now.” (Joshua Jackson, WBGO / NPR)

“…dragging the past kicking and screaming into the 21st century,” is what journalist Layla Macoran wrote for Examiner.com)

“Now vs. Now forges into altogether undeveloped musical terrain…Enormously controlled, Lindner executes flawless funk grooves over Guiliana's kinetic, steady-handed percussion…chock full of cosmopolitan wizardry and wonder. It's an apt tribute: a sound collage of a place that never stops moving..” (Joey Hood, NPR)

“…as much pop music as rock, jazz, funk and electronica. The main idea is quite simple: a group of great musicians, coming from different musical backgrounds, get together and play exactly what they love, without compromise.” (Diana Kondrashin, Russian Jazz Journal)

NOW VS NOW:

JASON LINDNER: Brooklyn, New York native, hailed as a “musical universe” by Chick Corea. His first solo recording "Premonition" on Corea's Stretch label featured the 12-piece ensemble (aka the Jason Lindner Big Band) legendary for their extended weekly residency at storied Greenwich Village club, Smalls. In addition to NOW VS NOW, the JLBB, and the new and unusual large ensemble BREEDING GROUND, Lindner is continually involved in collaborative projects such as the PROVERB TRIO (with Dafnis Prieto and Kokai), and also plays side-man to artists like Anat Cohen and Omer Avital and the frantically-exciting New York Gypsy All-Stars. Being a skilled arranger and producer led to a brief episode as musical director for multiple Grammy Award-winning artist Lauryn Hill, and various commissioned works for both stage and studio. Lindner appears on over 35 albums including those of Claudia Acuña, Avishai Cohen and Meshell Ndegeocello, and has toured with these artists plus Roy Haynes, Christian McBride, and many others.

PANAGIOTIS ANDREOU: Athens, Greece native, former Berklee student, now one of THE authorities on both Balkan and Cuban Timba music. Panagiotis (pronounced “pa-na-yo-tis”) is a stand-out artist with a signature bass style and a raw, emotive and moving vocal approach. He is co-founder of the NY Gypsy All-Stars. As a bassist, Andreou cut his chops on the road with bands like Yerba Buena and has performed with Cuban icon Isaac Delgado, Turkey's most beloved clarinetist Husnu Senlendirici, Balkan Gypsy artists Ivo Papasov and Ivan Milev, and many other international artists.

MARK GUILIANA: New Jersey native who according to Modern Drummer Magazine, “…may well be at the forefront of an exciting new style of drumming.” (He is.) Beat Music is not only the name of the musical genre he composes and plays, it's also the name of his own band. About his first band, Heernt, drummer Bill Bruford (Yes, King Crimson) called their record “the most exuberant, dramatic, beautiful, sassy, genre-busting little outing that I've heard since I don't know when.” Heavily inspired by artists like Squarepusher and Autechre, Mark also performs with Dafher Yusef, Gretchen Parlato, Wayne Krantz and others.
